FAQ
I am looking for a maths tutor for my son but I wouldn’t want to pay for a block of lessons until I know whether he engages with the tutor. Could I just book an initial lesson?
I would recommend taking this approach with any tutor so that you can see how the first lesson has gone before making an ongoing commitment. It's always important to get the sense that you have found someone who is the right fit for you.
I’m not sure if I want face to face lessons or remote. Remote sessions might be easier to me to fit in but I’ve never done any remote learning.
Why not try both? You could have an initial lesson face to face and then try a remote session to see if it works for you. I can do either.
We're looking for someone to deliver Post-16 GCSE Maths and English to a group of learners. Could you do that?
This is something I already do. I can work with existing programmes of study or deliver our own sessions depending on your requirements.
My friend and I both need help with GCSE Maths but he is more confident than I am.
Not a problem! Once I've met you both, I can get a feel for where you are both starting, where you both want to get to and how I can then support that whether that is with lessons together or separately.
Do you offer after-school or evening slots?
I offer both although these slots do tend to get booked up quickly.
I’m a mature student but I need to get a Grade 4 in English to be able to get onto a college course next year. Am I too old to do a GCSE?
No! Not everyone is confident in English and Maths when they are at school and many people leave without a Grade 4 (or equivalent) – it’s not uncommon to pick this up again later in life. I can work with you at a pace that suits you to build on the areas where you are confident and tackle the areas which are less clear for you.
We have some funding for delivering in-school interventions in English and Maths for some specific students on a one-to-one basis but we would need someone to deliver this onsite during school hours and most of the tutors we have found only provide after-school sessions. Could you come to us?
Yes. This is something I already do. However, I only offer this within the local area.
My daughter is home-schooled. She's always been quite good at English but she's finding English Literature more of a challenge in terms of knowing how to write good answers to exam questions and I think we'd like help with that.
Some people are quite confident with English Language but struggle with some of the texts on the GCSE curriculum or find it hard to write good answers in them. I can support students with Language or Literature.
